Family Housing

 The waiting list for Family Housing is currently closed. When the list is opened and applications are being accepted, a Public Notice will be placed in the Daily Record

 When applying for housing you must bring:

  • Photo Identification 
  • Proof of Income for all household members eighteen (18) years or older
  • Valid Social Security cards for all household members 
  • Birth Certificates for all household members (translated into English) 
  • Permanent Resident Card or Certificate of Naturalization (head of household must have one or the other if applicable) 
  • Landlord’s name and address

photo-0033_2Once the application has been completed, a staff member will review the application for eligibility; the applicant will be notified in writing as to acceptability or denial of the application within ten (10) business days.  If the application is accepted, the applicant’s name will be placed on an existing waiting list.

There is a three (3) to five (5) year waiting list for the family apartments.

Q.        Can an application be mailed?
A.        No, applications must be completed in person.

Q.        Can I apply if I do not reside in Morristown? 
A.        Yes, you do not have to be a resident of Morristown to apply, but Morristown residents have first preference.

Q.        Is there an application fee?
A.        No, there are no application fees.

Q.        Do I have to pay a security deposit?
A.        Yes, the security deposit is equal to one month’s rent.

Q.        Do I pay my own utilities?
A.        No, the Housing Authority pays utilities.  

Q.        Are residents allowed to have pets?
A.        Only elderly residents are permitted to have a dog or cat restricted to a specific size and weight class (security deposit required). 

Q.        Can I have a vehicle?
A.        Yes.   

Q.        Is Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher Program the same?
A.        No, they are two different programs.

Q.        Does Public Housing accept Housing Choice Vouchers?
A.        No.

Q.        Is Manahan Village the only development you have for families?
A.        Yes.

Q.        Can move-ins be made on the weekend?
A.        No, move-ins are scheduled on business days (Monday thru Friday) between the hours of 9:00am – 3:30pm only.

A.        No, apartments are assigned based on the applicant’s family composition.
